Richard A. Horgan ("Dick") is an attorney whose practice concentrates in the areas of trusts and estates, business formation, and asset protection for clients in North Carolina. He is licensed to practice law in New York, Connecticut, California and Florida, in addition to North Carolina. Before moving to Wilmington in 1995, Mr. Horgan was a litigation partner in a major New York City law firm for 19 years, was the resident managing partner of its 25-lawyer Stamford, Connecticut office for eight years, and served as outside general counsel for corporate clients. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Third and Fifth Circuits, as well as several United States District Courts. Attorney Horgan is a member of the American Bar Association, the North Carolina State Bar and the Fifth Judicial District Bar in North Carolina. Mr. Horgan's experience includes representation of individual clients on estate matters in litigated matters in court and with the Internal Revenue Service, as well as assisting clients in the preparation and implementation of their estate plans. He also has experience as the director of a public company and in conducting international and domestic arbitrations. Mr. Horgan's pro bono service has included many years as Secretary and President of the National center for Automated Information Retrieval, a New York City-based public interest, non-profit educational corporation organized by attorneys, judges and accountants to encourage the development of computer-assisted legal and accounting research. Attorney Horgan received his Bachelor of Sciences degree from Yale University in 1964 where he received a full scholarship as a Union Carbide Scholar for four years. He graduated with his Juris Doctor degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law of the University of California at Berkeley in 1967, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board. His present interests include active membership in his church, real estate investing, tennis and golf. Mr. Horgan is married to Cynthia Ann Horgan, a personal life coach.
